WHEDco helps women build and grow successful home-based childcare microenterprises throughout the City, while improving the quality of childcare available to New Yorkers.
This network is a professional affiliation for childcare providers, which offers ongoing professional development, technical assistance, parent referrals, access to nutrition programs like CACFP, and monitoring.
We match parents and licensed childcare providers to place children (ages 6 weeks to 3 years) in nurturing home-based day care businesses, where they can develop to their full potential and prepare for a smooth transition to Head Start or pre-K programs.

WHEDco works with providers who are not yet licensed to ensure safety standards for children and offer training to providers. In partnership with New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), the New York City Administration for Children's Services (ACS), and the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA), WHEDco has staff in 22 locations throughout New York City who are screening 45,000 unlicensed childcare providers to ensure that they meet health and safety standards, and have not been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor against children.
The Training Institute offers legally exempt childcare providers comprehensive professional development training and licensing assistance so they can improve the quality of care they provide, increase their revenues and, if they choose, open fully licensed childcare businesses. We also offer ongoing professional development classes to licensed providers so they can sustain and grow their existing businesses.
Trainings are held in these topic areas:
