The Bronx Music Hall (BMH) is a performance venue and community cultural center dedicated to honoring, showcasing and cultivating music, dance, theater, and interdisciplinary arts in the Bronx.

The BMH is the new permanent home of WHEDco’s Bronx Music Heritage Center (BMHC), which was founded in 2010 to preserve and promote Bronx music, cultivate Bronx artists, spur neighborhood revival, and provide free cultural programs for the community. The BMHC operated out of the BMHC Lab since 2012.

Music and Dance Classes at the BMH
The BMHC offers free and low cost music education to children, teens, and adults. Weekly music instruction is offered in three 10-week sessions (Fall, Spring & Summer).
Classes are taught by teaching artists who are well-established in their disciplines and who share a passion for developing musical talent and technique. Classes and workshops include piano, guitar, conga, percussion and cultural dance in small group settings, and focus on technique, as well as instruction in music notation and basic theory.
- Classes are low cost, small group classes
- Registration for new students is in-person only, by appointment
- Registration is on a first come, first served basis
- Registration fee for adults $75
- Registration fee for youth, 6-18 years old, $35
- Financial aid may be available upon request
- All classes meet once per week
- Classes include music theory & basic music notation

Latin Jazz Youth Orchestra
Directed by multi-Grammy nominated musician Bobby Sanabria, this student orchestra is made up of high-level High School music students from the NYC area with an emphasis on Bronx based players.
- Must audition.
- Students must have their own instruments.
- The students will meet once a week for 2-3 hours on Sunday’s during the school semester.
- At the end of each semester there will be a concert at the BMH’s main theater, open to the public.
- All students will receive a full scholarship to attend and receive free tickets to BMH programs.
REQUIREMENTS: The orchestra is open to all NYC students. Students who are proficient and live in the surrounding tri-state area and can commute are open to audition as well. High level reading, performance skills, and maturity will be a priority. If a student is not yet in high school but has an extremely high skill level playing an instrument, admittance to the orchestra is possible at the discretion of Mr. Sanabria. Students should have intermediate performance reading skills on their instruments

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: The student will be asked to perform a blues piece in a jazz style and a Latin oriented composition (mambo, cha-cha-cha, bolero, bossa nova, samba, etc.) of their choosing.
Basic improv skills have to be demonstrated on each of the chosen works. The student will be asked to sight read something as well. The audition will also consist of a small interview with each prospective student.
