On Saturday, July 27, 2019, WHEDco and its Bronx Music Heritage Center celebrated Bronx Music at Melrose, a FREE, full-day event featuring live performances by Bronx musicians, arts & crafts, games for the whole family, free food & refreshments, and -more importantly- an opportunity for event attendees to connect with local community partners and resources.
The evening portion of the event, Bronx Sounds: Music & Poetry Festival, presented a world-class lineup of Bronx musicians, performers and artists from different genres and cultures, including: Frank Ocasio Band; Drew Torres Trio; Behind the Facade; Cumbalaya; Epos Albanian Dance; Ahenemaa Kete; Bangladesh Academy of Fine Arts; performances by students of the BMHC’s Rhythm & Percussion, Salsa, and Capoeira classes; a magic show by Omedini the Magician, and City Lore’s POEMobile, with poetry of Boricua College poets curated by Nancy Mercado.
Special thanks to everyone who came out to this wonderful community event, to the talented artists who performed, and to our partners: Boricua College, New York Botanical Garden Compost Project, Phipps Neighborhoods, the NYC Parks Play Mobile, New Covenant Dominion Federal Credit Union, Cinco de Mayo Restaurant.
