Bronx Music Hall to Open in Melrose This Weekend

News 12 got an early look at a new performance venue opening in Melrose this weekend, that organizers say will uphold the legacy of our borough that’s sometimes forgotten.
The new Bronx Music Hall comes complete with 250-person theater, a dance studio, a recording studio and post-production room and an outdoor amphitheater.
Created by the nonprofit WHEDco, the hall aims to highlight how the borough’s musical influence goes far beyond hip-hop as it was once the epicenter of doo-wop, R&B, Latin jazz and salsa in NYC.
WHEDco leaders say there will be year-round free and low-cost programming, including all-age classes and performances, to ensure that the Melrose community is centered in the work.
The BMHC’s co-artistic directors Elena Martínez and multi-Grammy nominated percussionist Bobby Sanabria will curate programming at the Bronx Music Hall.
The grand opening weekend kicks off on Friday, Oct. 18 with a panel at 5:30 p.m. and musical performances starting at 8 p.m. from Bronx hip-hop legends Grandmaster Caz and MC Sha-Rock, Bronx DJ collective Uptown Vinyl Supreme and the Afro-Haitian roots music band Kongo.
