The history of a neighborhood is made up of countless personal stories —triumphs, tribulations, families, friendships— in which the neighborhood serves as a setting and plays an important role. WHEDco, in collaboration with New York University (NYU), is looking to collect, share and highlight the history of the Melrose neighborhood in the Bronx, as told by its residents.
The Oral Histories project aims to interview residents and learn about their experience in this community. This project will be led by NYU professor Rebecca Amato, a historian whose work focuses on the intersections between cities, space/place, and memory.
