Holiday Fiesta

Join WHEDco at our upcoming Holiday Fiesta on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at The Garage in Hell’s Kitchen (50th Street and 11th Avenue).

Get your boogie on to live music curated by our Bronx Music Heritage Center! Generously hosted by Kenneth Cole, our Holiday Fiesta will carry the vibe of an indoor “block party”, and will feature small bites and drinks from a diverse selection of Bronx-based restaurants and bars. There will be a special reception for VIP guests at 6:00PM. Doors for general admission open at 7:00PM.

The event will feature performances by Salieu Suso, master kora musician from The Gambia; DJ Perly, award-winning female DJ and member of the Almighty Skratcher Crew; and David Oquendo & Havana 3, performing traditional Cuban music.

This year, we will be honoring:

Marc & Jodi Schneider, Philanthropic Leadership Award
Marc and Jodi Schneider have been long-time supporters of WHEDco, with a particular focus on WHEDco’s Education and Youth Development initiatives. A talented educator, Jodi Benjamin-Schneider has served on the Board of the South Bronx Early College Academy, a middle charter school co-founded by WHEDco, since 2015, and has contributed invaluable time and expertise to the ongoing development of the school throughout its initial charter term. As the CEO of Kenneth Cole, Marc Schneider has made WHEDco’s 2018 Fall Fiesta and 2019 Holiday Fiesta at The Garage possible by facilitating the donation of the venue to WHEDco.

Sal Abbatiello, Community Builder Award
Sal Abbatiello is a music executive and philanthropist, best known for his role in popularizing genres such as hip hop, rap and freestyle, and for providing a platform for artists such as Grand Master Flash, The Cover Girls, among others. As the founder of Fever Enterprises, his ventures have included night clubs such as Disco Fever (“The Fever”), Skate Fever, and The Devil’s Next, as well as his famed record label Fever Records. A Bronx native, Sal has been actively involved with charity and community work for more than 35 years, raising funds for the United Negro College Fund and supporting diverse youth development initiatives.

The event will increase awareness for the Bronx Music Hall, the cultural centerpiece of our Bronx Commons development, and will raise critical operating support for WHEDco to continue providing much-needed services to low-income families in the South Bronx.
