WHEDco Letter Regarding Bronx Building Fire

Dear WHEDco Family,

We are grieving the heartbreaking loss of at least 19 community members, and many more who were injured in the fire at 333 East 181st Street on Sunday. The anguish of this tragedy touches all of us. Our tight-knit community is still working to locate children, parents, siblings, and friends – a gut-wrenching process being carried out with communities around the world, many of whom have family members who immigrated to the Bronx and who lived and possibly perished in this building.

WHEDco is working as quickly and as thoroughly as possible to identify and contact participants in our programs who live at that address or who may have family members living in the building. We will do all that we can to help the children and families impacted get back on their feet.

We are partnering with the Bronx Community Foundation – www.thebronx.org – to ensure that donations go directly to those impacted by the fire. If you would like to contribute to the relief efforts, please go directly to that website – www.thebronx.org/donate – and designate your contribution to The Fire Community Relief Effort.

In addition, you can donate some of the following items:

New and unworn clothing including coats, underwear, and socks
Gift cards to restaurants, grocery stores and food delivery services
Bottled water
New and unused sheets, pillows, and bedding
Diapers and other baby items
Hygiene products and toiletries
